Ethicon Vicryl Sutures USP 5-0, 3/8 Circle Cutting PC 3 Ethiprime – NW2442 is a type of surgical suture made by the Ethicon division of Johnson & Johnson. The “USP 5-0” refers to the size of the suture thread. In this case, it is a very fine thread. The “3/8 Circle Cutting PC 3” refers to the shape and type of the needle. The needle has a cutting edge and is curved in a 3/8 circle. The “Ethiprime” is a proprietary coating that improves the suture’s handling characteristics and reduces tissue drag.Overall, this suture is designed for use in surgeries where a very fine, strong suture is needed, such as in ophthalmic, plastic, or neurological surgeries. The cutting needle allows for easier penetration through tough tissues, while the fine thread provides excellent tensile strength and knot security. The Ethiprime coating helps to reduce tissue trauma and improve suture handling.
– Needle Length: 16mm
– Suture Length: 45cm
– Colour: Violet
– Suture Type: Synthetic Braided
– Absorption Profile: Absorbable : 56 – 70 Days (Average 63 Days)
– Suture Diameter: USP 5-0
– Suture Material: Polyglactin 910
– Needle Description: 16mm, 3/8 Circle Cutting PC 3 Ethiprime Needle
– Coating: Calcium Stearate
– Tensile Strength: 75% retention at 14 days, 50% retention at 21 days, 25% retention at 28 days
– The Coated Vicryl Suture is indicated for use in general soft tissue approximation and/or ligation, including use in ophthalmic procedures, but not for use in cardiovascular or neurological tissues
– The Coated Vicryl Suture is a synthetic absorbable sterile surgical suture composed of a copolymer made from 90% glycolide and 10% L-lactide
– This suture, being absorbable, should not be used where extended approximation of tissue is required
– Progressive loss of tensile strength and eventual absorption of Coated Vicryl Suture occurs by means of hydrolysis. Absorption begins as a loss of tensile strength followed by a loss of mass.
